About Us

In 2004 Sonya Duffin founded Pure Dance Company with a dream of creating a valuable outlet for Portland dancers. She thought dancers needed a place where they could develop their artistry and technique, showcase their choreography talents and gain valuable performance skills in a professional atmosphere. Pure Dance boasts a highly technical and unique group of seasoned dancers who, through the power of movement and expression, share the beauty and depth of dance. Pure Dance Company focuses primarily on artistic contemporary jazz dance, but often includes Hip Hop, Tap, Lyrical, and Modern into their repertoire. The company collaborates to create imaginative choreography and well-developed performances to entertain and inspire audiences.

There is no place like performing on the stage and one can only grow as dancer through the emotional and powerful experience of performance. Pure Dance allows artists a chance to push themselves and to open new doors for their dancing, choreography and performing skills, while enriching the cultural atmosphere of the city and community we create in. Pure Dance Company also offers an apprenticeship program to help budding young artists to follow their dreams in dance, as well as workshops and clinics for elementary, middle school, and high school age dancers.
